Turned down professional contract in baseball because he would not play on Sundays.

1929-Received Doctorate at Cal Tech. 
WWII Major and Commandant of Cadets. 
1941-became part of Radiation Laboratory National Defense Research Committee at MIT that developed radar used in WWII.
Inducted into Occidental College Track and Baseball Hall of Fame.
